Blake had her first dance recital a few weeks ago. She was so excited because she got to wear this way cute purple dance outfit for one part and a beautiful "princess" dress for another part. When she was getting ready in the morning, it was one of those moments where you look at your child and you can see how very quickly they will be growing up. I can hardly believe that she will be five in a few short months...but I know that she will be sixteen years old in just a blink of an eye. She had her performance with the rest of her class and then a special performance with her Daddy and three other Daddy-Daughter couples. Andy and Blake did such an amazing job together.
Blake was so excited because at the end of her performance she received flowers...her first flowers.

Today is Friday and on Friday nights during the summer, you will find us at the park, under the tree (my favorite tree), at movie night. We look forward to this the whole week long. My parents host movie night in the park in our sweet little town. We have a picnic dinner while the big movie screen gets set up and then we wait for our friends to come and join us.

My mom makes popcorn for everyone (I really mean everyone) and we all enjoy watching a movie together. That's what I love about movie nights...the togetherness is awesome. So many families in our town come down to watch the movie. The kids play while the parents can talk and we just hang out and build friendships - what an amazing concept in a world where people hardly know their neighbors. We are blessed to live where we live and we love it!

Creek Walking

We have a lovely creek that runs through the open space just a short walk from our house. We definitely do not go down there as often as we should. It's absolutely teeming with life. The girls loved playing in the water and looking for frogs and tadpoles. This is what summer is about.

CSA and Grant Family Farms

What better way to start the blog again and start the summer but with a post about our wonderful CSA. What is a CSA? Well, a CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. We purchased a CSA share for a farm up in Northern Colorado called Grant Family Farms. With the share, we get a (very) large box of organic veggies each week and soon it will be accompanied by some Colorado fruit. We are supporting a Colorado family farm instead of some Big Food Corporation, getting excellent food, and encouraging our family to be seasonal localvores. We picked up our box yesterday and I don't think I have ever been so excited to see vegetables. Since it is still the early part of our season, this week's box consisted of lots and lots of green. We have bunches of spinach, some lettuce, baby greens, and some herbs. As the summer heats up we will be enjoying all sorts of for now, I am up to my elbows in spinach. Any good ideas for bunches and bunches of spinach?
Last weekend was the Grant Family Farms Spring Festival and CSA kick-off. The weather was rainy and dreary but we packed up the kiddos and went up to Wellington, Colorado to experience where the majority of our food would be coming from for the next 26 weeks. Although we were not able to stay long because of the soggy weather and crazy amounts of mud, we were able to get a good feel of the farm. I am dying to go back to really be able to experience it. Luckily, Andy and I will be able to experience it as workers. We got a working share for our membership meaning that our share cost a little less than a non-working share because we will work at the farm for eighteen hours. To be honest, even though I know it will be hard work (pulling weeks, cleaning up after chickens, and other farm chores I can't even imagine), I am excited! I want to learn about life working on a farm and learn about growing food.
